REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

  1. First Reading Isaiah 7.10-14

Does asking a sign of the Lord indicate faith in God, uncertainty or mistrust? Ahaz did not want to believe Isaiah’s prophecy. How did God transcend their situation?

Psalm 128: “May the Lord come in; he is king of glory.”

  1. Second Reading Romans 1.1-7

Do I appreciate God’s gift of grace working in me? How have I responded to the call to belong to Christ? To cultivate faith in myself and others? Am I also called to be a saint?

Alleluia! “The virgin shall be with child and bear a son; and they shall name him Emmanuel: God is with us.”

  1. Gospel Reading Matthew 1.18-24

Matthew’s Gospel gives Joseph’s perspective on Mary’s pregnancy. How did he react to her apparent infidelity? Would I trust my fiancée? Would I trust God’s message in a dream?
