REFLECTION ON THE READINGS
14TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
- Zechariah 9.9-10
Rejoice! Rejoice in our King and God! Am I rejoicing today? Is God reigning in victory after crushing evildoers and restoring peace to earth? Or is our humble King on a donkey victorious in another way? Where do I see his loving presence among us: gracious, merciful, slow to anger, raising the fallen or weary with utmost patience and compassion? Is there cause for rejoicing?
Psalm 145: “I will bless your name forever, my King and my God.”
- Second Reading Romans 8.9, 11-13
Is my flesh all bad? How does it contribute to my whole being? How do the flesh and the Spirit work together in me? How has the indwelling Spirit of God influenced my behaviour, my hopes, my relationships?
Alleluia! “Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.”
- Gospel Reading Matthew 11.25-30
Has Jesus taught me through prayer? Do I thank God when his purpose is hidden to me? Do I think that I know God and what God wants? Have my expectations of God or others or myself, added to the weight of my burdens? Can I take a moment to rest in God, like his little child? Will I share the yoke with Christ?
