  1. First Reading Isaiah 5.1-7

Have I had special projects dear to my heart, like the vineyard was to the beloved? Did they bring the joy and fruits I imagined? Was I ever frustrated by disappointing outcomes? Is our world, God’s creation, yielding grapes or wild grapes, justice or injustice? Did God fail? What is our role as his planting?

Psalm 80: “The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.”

  1. Second Reading Philippians 4.6-9

What are my greatest worries right now? Do I offer them to God with prayer and supplication… and with thanksgiving? Why do stress and anxiety make it harder to be thankful? St. Paul kept Christ’s journey through suffering and death to resurrection always in mind. Does it help me center in God’s peace?

“Alleluia! I have chosen you from the world, says the Lord, to go and bear fruit that will last.”

  1. Gospel Reading Matthew 21.33-43

What is Jesus’ message to us today? What has God given me to steward for him, in my family, work, parish and social circles? What do I get from my efforts? What do I owe to God? Are the fruits truly the fruits of the kingdom or am I off track? What will move me to direct all my labour for the Son?
