REFLECTION ON THE READINGS – PRESENTATION OF THE LORD
- First Reading Malachi 3.1-4
Do I seek and long for the Lord? Do I really want to encounter him or am I hoping to avoid it until later? Do I dread purification or do I trust God’s just and merciful correction?
Psalm 24: “The Lord of hosts, he is king of glory!”
- Second Reading Hebrews 2.10-11, 13b-18
How wondrous our belief that Jesus is both fully human and fully divine! How does the Letter to the Hebrews explain the signifi-cance of this mystery? Are Jesus’ humanity and suffering an inspiration and comfort to me?
Alleluia! “A light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”
- Gospel Reading Luke 2.22-40
Mary, Joseph, Simeon and Anna were faithful and devout Jews. Do I share their trust in God’s word and fidelity in religious practice? Do I devote time to my relationship to God? How do I remain prepared to hear God’s voice and recognize his presence? Who or what encourages me? How long will I wait?
