REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT

  1. First Reading Genesis 12.1-4

How did I get to where I am in life? Whose call did I follow? Has God given me direction? When? How do I seek God’s guidance? Do I trust God? What does God promise us now?

Psalm 33: “Let your love be upon us, Lord, even as we hope in you.”

  1. Second Reading 2 Timothy 1.8b-10

Do I want to be holy or have I given up? Am I trying to be holier through my own efforts, especially during Lent? Have I taken time to rest in the grace and love of Christ, who is guiding and supporting every effort?

Praise to you, Lord, king of eternal glory! “From the bright cloud the Father’s voice was heard: This is my Son, the Beloved: listen to him.”

  1. Gospel Reading Matthew 17.1-9

What is my experience of God? Did I have a profound revelation of God that changed my faith or approach to life? Was I overcome with awe? Has God strengthened me through traumatic times? Has God gifted me with his profound peace? “Rise and do not be afraid.”
