REFLECTION ON THE READINGS
7th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
- First Reading Leviticus 19.1-2, 17-18
Am I holy? Do I want to be? What does God want? How am I trying to be holy? Do I need to work on what God told Moses: troubled family relationships, grudges I hold, desire to get even, loving honesty to others and truly loving my neighbor as I love myself?
Psalm 103: “The Lord is merciful and gracious.”
- Second Reading 1 Corinthians 3.16-23
How does St. Paul explain the call to holi-ness? Is holiness gained by human “craftiness”? How have I been blessed through belonging to Christ? Does it alter my outlook on life?
Alleluia! “Whoever obeys the word of Christ, grows perfect in the love of God.”
- Gospel Reading Matthew 5.38-48
Is it difficult for me to do as Jesus teaches? Do I try? Do I have trouble loving those who love me, never mind those who hate me? Which teachings are most difficult for me? What wisdom and help will I ask of God, as a small step towards becoming more perfect?
