First Reading: Ezekiel 2.3-5
How does God speak to his people? In explaining Ezekiel’s mission, the Lord warned him what to expect. How might God describe his children, Christians and others, today? How do I express my baptismal call as a Prophet, and what responses has God’s message received?
Psalm 123: “Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud. Our eyes look to the Lord, until he has mercy upon us.”
Second Reading2 Corinthians 12.7-10
When have I experienced Paul’s elation or deep joy in the Lord? What “thorns in the flesh” keep me grounded in absolute dependence on God? When have I been especially aware of Christ’s power in my weakness?
“Alleluia! The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has sent me to bring good news to the poor.” Alleluia.”
Gospel: Mark 6:1-6
Why did the people of Nazareth “take offence” at Jesus, in spite of reports from elsewhere and even their own amazement? How do my standards differ for people I know, compared to strangers? When and how has my faith been influenced by news reports, first impressions or familiarity? How were any misconceptions corrected?
