REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading Amos 7.12-15

The priest had an important position. Why might God have chosen Amos, the shepherd, to prophesy, rather than him? What aspects of my life are guided more by secular concerns than by God? Has the Lord been drawing them to my attention?  How can I be more attentive and committed to following God’s path?

Psalm 85: “Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.”

2. Second Ephesians 1.3-14

How blessed are we in Christ, through God’s plan since “before the foundation of the world”! What gifts has God given us, that we may live as he intends in this world and the next? How have God’s gifts already manifested in my life? As I reflect on God’s amazing generosity and plans, how can I grow even more as his beloved adopted child?

Alleluia! May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our heart that we may know the hope to which we are called.”

3. Gospel Reading Mark 6.7-13

What new initiative have I been involved with recently? What preparation was required? Was I ready when it started? Where and how do I currently live out my discipleship to Christ? What further ventures has Christ been proposing to me? What stumbling blocks are there? With Jesus as guide, how might we become stronger as a community to help each other spread the Good News, like the twelve?
