REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading Deuteronomy 30.10-14

“Obey the Lord your God by observing his commandments and decrees…, turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.” What aspects of this instruction are easy, and what is more challenging? Moses “walked with” God, but the Israelites often found God distant. How can I strive to grow closer to God?

Psalm 69: “Seek God in your need, and let your hearts revive.”

Psalm 19: “The precepts of the Lord are right and give joy to the heart.”

2. Second Reading - Colossians 1.15-20

God gives us his fullness in Christ, “the image of the invisible God”. How is my faith enriched in and through Christ? How would I explain my understanding of Christ to someone who is not very familiar with him?

“Alleluia! Your words, Lord, are spirit and life; you have the words of eternal life.

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 10.25-37

“Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” What answers have I learned in the course of my life? If Jesus put me in this parable, what would he say? How have similar events played out recently in my life? How is Jesus challenging me to grow in love and mercy towards my neighbours?
