REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading Genesis 18.1-10a

In his hospitality to the three strangers at his door, Abraham welcomed and was blessed by God. Who have I welcomed into my home or my life recently? What kind of “hospitality” do I usually offer, for example: physical nourishment and rest (like Abraham); an open door to listen; council; a place in my heart and prayer, or…? How could I be more generous in welcoming others, and meeting God in them?

Psalm 15: “O Lord, who may abide in your tent?”

2. Second Reading - Colossians 1.24 -28

Christ’s sacrifice was perfect for our salvation, but suffering continues. How did St. Paul’s attitude to his sufferings teach the Gentiles about the mystery of Christ and hope of his glory? What are my sufferings? As Christ’s disciple, how might those sufferings contribute to bringing people to maturity in Christ?

“Alleluia! Blessed are they who hold fast to God’s word in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 10.38-42

Do I recognize myself in Martha or Mary, or both? When I welcome a guest, as they did, what advice might Jesus give me? How does Jesus want me to receive him in my day to day life?
