17TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: 2 Kings 4.42-44

The man offered the first fruits of his harvest to Elisha, the man of God. What do I offer to the Lord? When have my offerings provided greater benefit than I ever could have imagined?

Psalm 145: You open your hand to feed us; Lord; you satisfy all our needs.

Second Reading: Ephesians 4.1-6

How does my faith and commitment to life in Christ help me live in harmony with those in my family and the broader community? What mindset and virtues are needed to bring about peace? How are the unity and hope of our faith expressed in our parish community? What might help us grow in Christian witness?

“Alleluia! A great Prophet has risen among us; God has looked favorably on his people Alleluia.”

Gospel: John 6.1-5

“’Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?’ He [Jesus] said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do.” What seemingly impossible tasks are challenging our society? Philip and Andrew responded differently. How can I engage with one or more of today’s overwhelming challenges? What can I offer to facilitate whatever the Lord’s plan may be?
