REFLECTION ON THE READINGS
1. First Reading Genesis 18.20-32
The Lord hears both the outcry about the evils in Sodom and Gomorrah and Abraham’s pleas for mercy on account of “the righteous” who live there. What are my most heartfelt petitions to God related to our complex social situation? How do I pray for people who need God’s love and assistance, even though they may be trapped in sin? Who have I overlooked in my usual prayers?
Psalm 138: “On the day I called, O Lord, you answered me.”
2. Second Reading - Colossians 2.12-14
What trespasses has God forgive me, that still resurface? If God has erased the record, why am I not yet free? How can I more fully live the gift of faith and explain it to others?
“Alleluia! You have received a Spirit of adoption, in whom we cry, Abba! Father!”
3. Gospel Reading - Luke 11.1-13
Why is prayer important to me? What are my most memorable experiences of the power of prayer? How has God answered my prayer when he did not give what I asked for? What ways of prayer do I typically use, and why?
