REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading - Isaiah 2.1-5

What would the world look like if peoples of all nations turned to God for instruction and desired to walk in his ways? How can we help bring about the Kingdom of God in our immediate circles? How might that influence be extended to others.

Psalm 122: “let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord”

2. Second Reading Romans 13.11-14

How has “putting on the Lord Jesus Christ” changed my life? What attractions of the flesh still trouble me? What will I focus on this Advent, to be more ready to meet Christ?”

“Alleluia! “Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.”

3. Gospel Reading – Matthew 24.37-44

The many natural disasters throughout the world add weight and urgency to Jesus’ teaching. How ready am I for my own last day, and for the final coming of the Lord? What threats may attack my soul? How can I guard against them?

PARISH NEWS

This week, there is a second collection for our Parish Christmas Outreach Program. This is our annual collection which helps with sharing the Christmas Spirit with those in need within our community. Last year our parish visited 70 families with 40 children and we expect about the same again for this Christmas season. Your monetary donations will help each family with a chicken or turkey and a grocery gift card for a good Christmas dinner. Also, the familiar Jesse Tree in the front entrance of the Church will not be around for gift drop offs - instead, we welcome gift donations for individual children on our list. Please call Cathy or the parish office for information on specific gifts or other questions, or to refer a family who needs help. Contact information can be found on our parish website or in our weekly bulletin.

If you do not have your Christmas Outreach envelope today, please feel free to drop it in any future collection basket or at the Parish office. Please consider donating generously to our outreach program and we thank you for your support.

On Sunday, December 18, our Christmas Outreach program needs volunteers to help with the delivery of the gifts. Delivery will begin after the 8am Sunday Mass and should only take an hour of your time. If you are able to help, please contact the parish office. Thank you for your help in spreading Christmas cheer!

*Our Parish is always looking for volunteers who are willing to donate their time and talents in various areas such as:  sacristans, readers, altar servers, choir members, gift bearers, parking lot attendants and so much more. Please speak with the Mass coordinator if you are able to help or would like more information.
