REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading - Isaiah 66.18-21

How is God fulfilling this prophecy he gave to Isaiah? What aspects of it are still progressing? How am I participating in God’s call to help advance his Kingdom on earth?

Psalm 117: “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news”

2. Second Reading Hebrews 12.5-7, 11-13

What trials in my life have I understood to be the discipline of the Lord? How did they differ from other trials and challenges? What have they taught me about God, and how have I changed as a result?

“Alleluia! I am the way, the truth, and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father, except through me.”

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 13.22-30

“Lord, will only a few be saved?” What is the “narrow door” that Jesus recommends as a more certain path for salvation? Why is the door locked to many of those who knock, even though they think they know Jesus? What is the state of my relationship with Jesus? How can I become closer to him than I am: eating and drinking at Mass, and knowing of his teaching? How do the people from afar find their way into the kingdom of God?
