REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading Numbers 11.25-29

What are my most memorable experiences of the presence of the Holy Spirit? When did I speak out or act as the Spirit prompted? When did I fail to do so? Why? How can I open my heart more fully to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in my daily life? “Lord, send forth your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.”

Psalm 19: “The precepts of the Lord are right and give joy to the heart.”

2. Second Reading James 5.1-6

James challenges us to evaluate our stock of possessions and how we acquire them. What changes is God asking me to consider in terms of my lifestyle and future security? How does my sustenance (work, accommodation, food and other items, etc.) depend on the efforts of others? What are the global impacts of my choices?

Alleluia! Your word, O Lord, is truth; sanctify us in the truth.”

3. Gospel Reading Mark 9.38-43, 45, 47-48

Mark 9.38-43, 45, 47-48

The disciples felt special: they followed Jesus and had first-hand teaching. What is there about my faith and relationship to Jesus that makes me feel special? How do I feel about people who have a different understanding of Christ, or are in a different place in their spiritual journey? What are my biggest triggers and stumbling blocks? What will I work on first, to become more like Jesus was with others?
