REFLECTION ON THE READINGS
25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
1. First Reading Ezekiel 18.25-28
Has life ever been unfair to me? Has it seemed that God was unfair? Are there Church teachings I consider unfair? Is God’s explanation to Ezekiel helpful? Is it easier to get out of the trap of sin or to stay on a good path? How can I work through my challenges with God’s ways and teaching?

Psalm 25: “Lord, be mindful of your mercy”

2. Second Reading Philippians 2.1-11
What will make Paul’s joy complete? Do our families and our parish show that same unity of mind and spirit in Christ? Is it possible? Do I fear that humility and obedience mean loss of self-identity? When the obedience is to God, what are the results – in this life and after?

“Alleluia! My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord; I know them, and they follow me.”

3. Gospel Reading Matthew 21.28-32
Do I see myself in either of the sons? How do the timeliness and nature of my responses affect the lives of those near to me: at home, at school, at work or in the community? How reliable are my responses to God? Am I hesitating in trusting God or deepening our relationship? What will it take to change my mind?
