REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading - Amos 6.1a, 4-7

For Amos, what is the real sin of those who live in ease? How “ease-y” and secure is my life? What are my greatest concerns?

Psalm 146: ““The Lord upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. Praise the Lord, O my soul!”

2. Second Reading 1 Timothy 6.11-16

By Baptism we became children of God, called to grow into maturity of faith. How have I grown in faith and in Christian living, especially after Confirmation? How does my relationship to Jesus influence my day-to-day life?

“Alleluia! Though Jesus Christ was rich, yet he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.”

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 16.19-31

How has money, or lack of it, affected my life? In what ways do I act like Lazarus? How is the Holy Spirit calling me to respond to this parable now, before it is too late for myself or others? On this World Day of Migrants and Refugees, are there specific ways I could assist with their needs?
