First Reading: Isaiah 49.3, 5-6

What was Isaiah’s role as God’s servant? What is God asking of me as his servant? To whom is he sending me? How do my day-to-day activities fit in with God’s plan, and how do they give glory to God?

Psalm 40: “I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1.1-3

St. Paul reminds the community that not only he, as an Apostle, is called by God. What is the call to the community in Corinth, and to all of us who “call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…”? What helps me to grow in holiness?

Alleluia! The word became flesh and lived among us. To all who received him, he gave the power to become children of God.”

Gospel: John 1.29-34

John the Baptist saw God’s plan unfolding step by step in his life. How have different decisions and events in my life brought me to my current understanding of God and relationship to Christ? Where and how do I testify to the Son of God?
