REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading Jeremiah 31.7-9

“Save, O Lord, your people, the remnant of Israel.” The faithful Israelite exiles longed to return to their lands and regular worship. How does our pandemic experience compare to an exile? What emotions have I felt during “the return”? What signs of God’s presence did I notice?

Psalm 126: “The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.”

2. Second Reading Hebrews 5.1-6

How do Hebrew high priests, as described here, compare to Catholic priests? In what ways is Christ’s priesthood similar and very different? What can ordaine priests learn from Christ’s priesthood? What can we all take to heart for our baptismal priesthood? What will I do to better fulfill my own vocation? How can I encourage others to hear and follow their call, especially to the priesthood and religious life?

Alleluia! Our Saviour Jesus Christ has abolished death and brought us life through the Gospel.”

3. Gospel Reading Mark 10.46-52

“What do you want me to do for you?” How often do I call out desperately to God? How often, in my blindness and pain, do I overlook my need for mercy? How often do I fail to hear Jesus calling me? How often do I lack the faith or the will to approach him and admit my need? “Immediately the man regained his sight and followed Jesus on the way.” The way to the Cross.

Synod Opening Mass: Pope Francis has announced a Synodal Process through which we are called to pursue a common mission.  It is an opportunity for us to walk together, list to one another in charity, and to hear what is on the hearts of our brothers and sisters. In recognition of this calling, our Archdiocese will participate with a special Mass at 2:30 on Sunday, October 24 at the Holy Rosary Cathedral. All are welcome to attend.

A Keyboard player for our Parish is needed for Sunday 6pm English Masses. If you are able to help, please contact the choir leader of the Mass time that best fits your schedule.

Mask mandate: All parish indoor gatherings, such as prayer groups, meetings, PREP, etc. are also covered by this new mask mandate.  Exemptions to the BC mask mandate are applicable and can be found in the BC Covid19 website.
