REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading Daniel 12.1-3

What are the afflictions in my current life? How do I cope with severe anguish? What is my vision of the end times? How is my role in this life preparing myself and others for everlasting life?

Psalm 123: “Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.”

2. Second Reading Hebrews 10.11-14, 18

“Where there is forgiveness of sin and lawless deeds, there is no longer any offering for sin.” How does the Christian sacrament of Reconciliation compare with the Old Testament concept of atonement? What differences are there in personal consequences of sin, and in the rupture and repair of relationships with others and with God?

“Alleluia! Be alert at all times, praying that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

3. Gospel Reading Mark 13.24-32

Jesus foretells persecution and tribulation from the time of his death until the coming of the Son of Man. How close are we now to the time of Christ’s return? Are there unmistakable signs appearing already? What does “this generation” mean to God? How will Christ’s words be preserved? How am I preparing for the springtime of the Lord?
