REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading - Nehemiah 8.2 – 4a, 5 – 6, 8 - 10

How does the worship service conducted by Ezra compare to the Mass? What mindset and expectations did I bring to Mass today? How did the words of the Lord in Sacred Scripture and the interpretation by the priest affect me? After participating in the Mass, how do I celebrate the day holy to the Lord?

Psalm 19: “Your words, Lord, are spirit and life.”

2. Second Reading -1 Corinthians 12.12 - 30

What are some of the benefits and downsides to being part of the Body of Christ? What kind of part am I, and why do I see myself that way? How integrated am I with other members of the Body of Christ: in harmony, in caring, in suffering, in rejoicing with others? How do my gifts and abilities complement others, for the good of the Church?

“Alleluia! The Lord sent me to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the captives.”

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 1.1 – 4; 4.14 - 21

What was Jesus’ message to the people of the town where he grew up? What did he mean by “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”? How does his message drawn from Isaiah’s text challenge and encourage me in 2022?
