02/02 Sunday: FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD [1] Malachi 3: 1-4 [2] Hebrews 2.14-18 [Gospel] Luke 2.22-40 or 22-32
First Reading: Nehemiah 8.2-4a, 5-6, 8-10
The Israelites in exile lacked spiritual guidance; many felt abandoned by God; and the memory of God’s care for his people and his covenants faded. When have I experienced a return to religious or family traditions? How does it feel to be embraced anew by the love of God, especially in community?
Psalm 19: “Your words, Lord, are spirit and life.”
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12.12-30
“Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” How am I connected to the people in the next row at Mass? What roles and talents has God given me as a member of the body of Christ? How do I exercise these in collaboration with other members of the body?
“Alleluia! The Lord sent me to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the captives. Alleluia.”
Gospel: Luke 1.1-4; 4.14-21
What would I include in an account to highlight the truth of Jesus and his mission? How is Jesus the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy that he proclaimed in Nazareth? As a member of his body, the Church, how do I share in its fulfilment, especially in this “year of the Lord’s favour”, the Jubilee year of Hope?
