“Grant us, Lord our God, that we may honour you with all our mind, and love everyone in truth of heart.”

First Reading: Zephaniah 2.3; 3.12-13

What characteristics prepare us to seek the Lord? The “remnant of Israel”, humble and lowly, remained faithful to the Lord through persecution and oppression. What do I need to work on to grow closer to the Lord? What are the challenges?

Psalm 146: “Blessed are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs!”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1.26-31

What are my weaknesses? How do they affect my daily life? When have I seen God produce amazing results out of failures? What is God prompting me to try, in spite of my inadequacy and insecurity? God’s gift of his Son is the wellspring of all life and hope: may my trust and boasting be always in the Lord!

Alleluia! Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.”

Gospel: Matthew 5.1-12

When have I seen the light of Christ? How have I heard his call and responded? What are some obstacles to following Christ and becoming “fishers of people”? How is God inviting me to continue his work today?
