4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER

"O God, shepherd and ruler of all the faithful, look favourably on your servant Leo XIV, whom you have set at the head of your Church as her shepherd; grant, we pray, that by word and example he may be of service to those over whom he presides so that, together with the flock entrusted to his care, he may come to everlasting life

First Reading: Acts 13.14, 43-52

“It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken first to you.” Many of God’s chosen people, who had received the Law and the Prophets, rejected the Good News about Christ. How is my enthusiasm at being a Christian manifest to others? How can we help people baptized as infants remain vibrant in their faith? What might help enliven our entire faith community, to go out filled with joy and the Holy Spirit?

Psalm 100: “We are his people: the sheep of his pasture.”

Second Reading: Revelation 7.9, 14b-17

People today are going through terrible ordeals in many places, even in our own community. Whom has God given me to shepherd and to comfort? How am I engaged in furthering Christ’s kingdom “on earth as it is in heaven”?

“Alleluia! I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and my own know me.”

Gospel: John 10.27-30

“I am going fishing.” Returning to work can be an escape or a grounding in the midst of emotional and spiritual turmoil, but Jesus had other plans for the Apostles. When/how has Jesus upset my plans for normalcy and stability in my life? When has he “invited me to breakfast” on a regular day? How has he tested my love and commitment to prepare me to follow him? Who are my sheep and lambs?
