REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

“Almighty, ever-living God, lead us to a share in the joys of heaven, so that the humble flock may reach where the brave Shepherd has gone before.”

1. First Reading Acts 13.14,43-52

Paul and Barnabas began their mission as Jesus did, bringing light to Judaism. How might Christian history have changed without early opposition from Jewish leaders? How is the Holy Spirit manifest in these early days of the Church? When have I been “filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit”?

Psalm 100: “We are his people: the sheep of his pasture.”

2. Second Reading - Revelation 7.9,14b-17

In heaven John saw those “who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” What “great ordeal(s)” have I experienced? How do I feel about suffering? When I recall deceased loved ones, how did the Lamb “guide them to springs of the water of life”?

“Alleluia! I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and my own know me.

3. Gospel Reading - John 10.27-30

How does Jesus’ teaching today resonate with me at this point in my faith journey? Reflecting on his description, how would I describe my relationship to Jesus and God the Father, and the hope it promises? What is Jesus saying and how am I following him?
