5TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

“Keep your family safe, O Lord, with unfailing care, that, relying solely on the hope of heavenly grace, they may be defended always by your protection.”

First Reading: Isaiah 58.6-10

What does the Lord ask of all who seek to draw near to him? With so much oppression and injustice in the world, how can we make any difference? What are the “yokes” close to home, within family, school, work and social circles? How am I bringing light and letting God’s glory shine there?

Psalm 112: “Light rises in the darkness for the upright”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 2.1-5

Baptism tasks us with proclaiming the mystery of God. How does my sense of preparedness compare with St. Paul’s? How do I approach the challenge of sharing about God with others? How is God helping me to grow as his witness?

Alleluia! I am the light of the world, says the Lord; whoever follow me will have the light of life.”

Gospel: Matthew 5.13-16

How does my faith flavour my personality and behaviour? How does it light up my life? What difference does it make in my day-to-day environment? Good works often receive personal praise: how can we help others appreciate them, to God’s glory?
