First Reading: Jeremiah 17.5-8

What are my greatest anxieties or stresses? How is my stress level related to how much I am counting on my own abilities; how much the situations depend on others; and how much I trust in God? When/how has God helped me through “parched deserts” and “times of drought”?

Psalm 1: “Blessed the one who trusts in the Lord.”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15.12, 16-20

How does belief in Jesus’ resurrection inform my understanding of the resurrection of the dead? What does the resurrection mean for deceased family members and friends? How do I feel about my own death, in God’s time?

“Alleluia! Rejoice and leap for joy; for surely your reward is great in heaven.”  Alleluia.”

Gospel: Luke 6.17, 20-26

When have I experienced the blessedness that Jesus assures in the Beatitudes? When did I not feel blessed at all in situations of poverty, hunger, sorrow, rejection and humiliation? What do the Beatitudes mean? How can we live in the spirit of the Beatitudes, taking the woes to heart when life is going smoothly?
