7th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Leviticus 19.12, 17-18

“You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.” How do I picture holiness? How does that image compare with the Lord’s guidance in Leviticus? What relationships in my family or social networks do I need to work on to “love my neighbour as myself”? How will I start?

Psalm 103: “The Lord is merciful and gracious.”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 3.16-23

St. Paul also reminds us: “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?...God’s temple is holy and you are that temple.” How do I live as God’s holy temple? What worldly considerations distract me from appreciating that God already gifted me with “all things” necessary to belong fully to Christ?

Alleluia! Whoever obeys the word of Christ, grows perfect in the love of God.”

Gospel: Matthew 5.38-48

“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Jesus again challenges us to love beyond our comfort zone, even to risk being hurt. When have I been able to love as Jesus asks, and when have I failed? What have I learned through those experiences? What extraordinary love is Christ asking of me now? How will I respond?
