REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading 1 Samuel 26.2, 7-9, 12-13, 22-25

What do I imagine doing to my enemies, especially if they were in my power? How is God asking me to deal with specific oppressive, troublesome or challenging individuals in my life? How is he helping me?

Psalm 103: “The Lord is merciful and gracious. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.”

2. Second Reading - 1 Corinthians 15.45-49

What do I most appreciate about my physical being? About my spiritual nature? What would it be like to be purely physical or purely spiritual? How is it different to be related to Christ and not simply to Adam?

“Alleluia! I give you a new commandment: love one another just as I have loved you.”

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 6.27-38

“Do to others as you would have them do unto you.” Easy words; challenging examples. What have I learned from my own experience of neediness and receiving? When have I had to beg (e.g., for exact change, fundraising, personal needs), and someone gave? When have I been hungry, and someone shared? When have I been cold and someone helped? When have I been forgiven by someone I really hurt? How can I live this Gospel better today? Lord Jesus, help me to do to others as you have done to me.
