“Men of Galilee, why gaze in wonder at the heavens? This Jesus whom you saw ascending into heaven will return as you saw him go, alleluia.”
First Reading: Acts 1.1-11
What good-byes have stuck in my memory? What preparation was there beforehand? Jesus prepared the Apostles before and after his Resurrection. If I had been there, what would I have wanted to hear from Jesus or ask him? How has his promise of the Holy Spirit borne fruit in the Church and in me?
Psalm 47: “God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.”
Second Reading: Ephesians 1.17-23 / Hebrews 9.24-28; 10.19-23
Having “the eyes of [the] heart enlightened” by the spirit of wisdom differs from head knowledge. How confidently does my faith empower me to live in the hope described here? What helps to increase faith and hope?
“Alleluia! Go, make disciples of all nations; I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Gospel: John 24.46-53
As Jesus’ witness, what do I proclaim and to whom? What differences are there between my Christian life and the apostles’ reaction to Jesus’ ascension? What would Jesus want?
