FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI
“He fed them with the finest wheat and satisfied them with honey from the rock.”
First Reading: Genesis 14.18-20
The priest-king Melchizedek offers bread and wine, together with praise and thanksgiving to acknowledge God’s blessing on Abram. How does this interaction between Melchizedek and Abram compare to our celebration of the Mass?
Psalm 110: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 11.23-26
Why do I go to Mass? How has my understanding of Holy Communion deepened since my first Communion? What does it mean to me to receive Jesus’ Body and Blood, and to “proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes”?
“Alleluia! I am the living bread of heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats of this bread will live forever.”
Gospel: Luke 9.11b-17
Jesus asked the apostles to take care of the hungry, tired crowd. How do I participate in the Church’s work of caring for the practical needs of others? How else do I share in the many ways God “feeds” his people ?
