“O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament have left us a memorial of your Passion, grant us, we pray, so to revere the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood that we may always experience in ourselves the fruits of your redemption.”
First Reading: Exodus 24.3-8
“All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.” Blood sealed the Israelites’ agreement to God’s covenant and the Ten Commandments. What are our commitments as participants in the New Covenant in Christ?
Psalm 116: “I will lift up the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord.”
Second Reading: Hebrews 9.11-15
How does the sacrifice of Christ, who is at once God, Priest and Sacrifice, differ from the Old Covenant? What are the implications for us?
Sequence (6): “This the truth each Christian learns:
bread into his own flesh Christ turns,
to his precious Blood the wine.
Sight must fail, no thought conceives,
but a steadfast faith believes,
resting on a power divine.”
“Alleluia! I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats of this bread will live forever. Alleluia.”
Gospel: Mark 14.12-16, 22-26
What do I cherish most about the sacrament of Holy Eucharist? What is most challenging?
