OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
“Almighty ever-living God, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of the universe, grant, we pray, that the whole creation, set free from slavery, may render your majesty service and ceaselessly proclaim your praise.”
First Reading: Daniel 7.13-14
Daniel’s dream foretold the kingship of Christ, “one like a son of man”. Today kings have little authority and many people do not believe in God: what do Christ’s everlasting kingship and dominion mean to me?
Psalm 93: “The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.”
Second Reading: Revelation 1.5-8
How has Jesus’ sacrifice transformed me towards freedom from sin and growth in holiness and loving service to God? How have I contributed to “piercing” the Lord? What joys and laments would I have if he came right now?
“Alleluia! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David; blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” Alleluia.”
Gospel: John 18.33b-37
Jesus’ trial continues today. If, like Pilate, I could talk to Jesus about why he is being tried, what questions would I raise? How do Jesus’ answers to Pilate help me? How do I strive to “belong to the truth”?
