REFLECTION ON THE READINGS
1. First Reading - Sirach 3.17-20, 28-29
What are some signs of true humility? How does it differ from self-deprecation or low self-esteem? What effects has the “evil plant” of pride had in my life? How do I try to weed it out?
Psalm 68: “In your goodness, O God, you provided for the needy.”
2. Second Reading Hebrews 12.18-19,22-24a
This part of Hebrews prompts the reader to strive for personal holiness and bring others to God’s grace. How do the scriptural images of God in the two paragraphs compare to my image of God? How has my image of God changed over time? How has my image of God influenced my relationship to him, how I live my faith and my readiness for eternal life?

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 14.1-7.14
When have I experienced a situation like Jesus describes, with the places at a wedding banquet? When have I, perhaps unthinkingly, relegated someone to a low place in my hospitality, and why? Who do I welcome at my table? How can I be more inclusive in a practical way of those not usually in my social circle, especially those who cannot repay me?
