REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading - Wisdom 18.6 – 9

The Israelites suffered for a long time as slaves in Egypt before their deliverance. When I have suffered a prolonged period of trial, what sustained my hope? How did I act towards God during that time? How has that experience affected my faith and my relationship to God?

Psalm 33: “Blessed the people of the Lord has chosen as his heritage.”

2. Second Reading - Hebrews 11.1-2, 8-19

How has my faith changed through different stages of life and life-events? What challenges have I been able to get through, with the help of the gift of faith? When my faith has been weak, what happened? What do I ask of God, for the circumstances I am living in right now?

“Alleluia! Keep awake and be ready, for you know not when the Son of Man is coming

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 12.32-48

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” How far am I from the state of readiness Jesus describes? What bad habits and behaviors need to be purged? What worldly goods and preoccupations distract me from service for Christ? How do I serve the people already in my care? What is Jesus’ primary message for me today?
