First Reading: Genesis 9.8-15

What is a covenant? What did God promise in his covenant with Noah, and what was Noah’s part in the agreement? How does the story of Noah and the ark inform our Catholic understanding of God and our relationship to him?

Psalm 25: “Your paths, Lord, are love and faithfulness for those who keep your covenant.”

Second Reading: 1 Peter 3.18-22

How does Peter explain the significance of the Paschal mystery: the suffering, death, Resurrection and Ascension of Christ? How would I describe the importance of Baptism? As a baptized person, what role and responsibilities do I have in the New Covenant instituted by Christ?

“Praise and honour to you, Lord Jesus Christ! Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Gospel: Mark 1:12-15

Reflecting on my spiritual journey, what wilderness periods, temptations, companions, threats and Angels come to mind? How would I describe my spiritual “space” as this Lent begins? What Lenten practices might support further conversion of my heart towards deeper repentance and faith, so I may be readied to proclaim the good news of God?
