REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading - Jeremiah 38.4-6, 8-10

Jeremiah often protested his call to be God’s prophet, knowing how difficult the task. What opposition or hardships have I encountered in telling others about God? When has God helped me in ways I didn’t expect?

Psalm 40: “I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. Lord, make haste to help me!”

2. Second Reading - Hebrews 12.1-4

In the pressure of busy schedules, getting through each day can seem like running a race. What does my life race look like and how does it compare with the race described in Hebrews? How does Jesus fit into my race and how could he change it?

“Alleluia! Me sheep hear my voice, say the Lord; I know them, and they follow me.”

3. Gospel Reading - Luke 12.49-53

How has Jesus challenged my family through its history until now? What divisions do we face on account of him? What is the path to reconciliation? “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth.“
