What challenges have I experienced in following God’s call? When have I been compelled by the Holy Spirit to speak a prophetic word, knowing it could be misunderstood or ridiculed? What supports me in remaining faithful to God?

Second Reading: Romans 12.1-2

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.” How is this to be done? What help do I need?

Gospel: Matthew 16.21-27

Jesus lived and taught the way of discipleship. When do I tend to be like Peter, favouring human thinking that suffering should be avoidable? What stumbling blocks prevent me from dedicating my life to following Christ right now, in my current circumstances?

PARISH NEWS

Food hamper program:Our parish, together with St. Mark's Lutheran and King's Cross Anglican Churches, hope to begin a monthly food hamper program for people in need in our community, starting in October. If you are interested in helping please join us on Thursday September 14 at 7:00 pm  for an update and practical planning.  Friends and neighbours are most welcome. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program for Catholic and non-Catholic: Do you want to learn more and increase your knowledge about your Catholic faith? Do you know anybody who are interested to become Catholic? Be a Disciple, Be an Evangelizer! St Joseph’s Parish RCIA program offers Evening classes from 7pm to 9pm. Classes will start on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Refreshments will be served.

Religious Education Program: St Joseph’s Parish offers Religious Education Program from Grade 1 to Grade 7 for children to receive First Communion & Reconciliation and Confirmation sacraments. Classes will start on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 9:30 am. Registration will be on the same date at 9:00 am. Please bring a copy of your children’s baptismal certificate.

Office hours: Beginning on Tuesday, September 5th, our parish office will be open Monday to Friday from 9am until 4pm, with a lunch break from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.  

Canada Labour Day: Monday September 4, the parish office will be closed in observance of the Holiday. The 8 AM Mass is celebrated as usual.

Volunteer needed: Our Parish is always looking for volunteers who are willing to donate their time and talents in various areas. Please speak with the Mass coordinator if you are able to help or would like more information.

Next weekend collections please be prepared for a second collection for our Parish Building Fund and a third collection for the Healing and Reconciliation fund that helps support our Indigenous Brothers and Sisters.  Thank you for your generosity.
