First Reading: Isaiah 55.6-9

“Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near” With all the demands of life, how can I maintain a close relationship with God and help my family keep God in their lives? 

Psalm 145: “The Lord is near to all who call on him.”

Second Reading: Philippians 1.20-24, 27

“Live your life in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ.” How am I to live at this stage of my life, so that Christ may “be exalted in my daily life.

Gospel: Matthew 20.1-16

Jesus presents the parable of vineyard owner and the labourers. How does this parable relate to my spiritual journey and how does it affect my efforts and expectations?

*WALK-A-THON: St. Joseph’s School is having a Walkathon fundraising event on Friday Oct. 6, 2023. Our Pastor Father Minh will join our school children on their walk. Parishioners can support Father Minh in his efforts by making donations on his behalf. Pledge forms are available at the Parish office and at the School office, and our staff are ready to receive your donations. All donations of $20 or higher are eligible to receive tax receipts. Please fill out the pledge form and indicate your preference. Alternatively, you can also support our school children by making donations toward their fundraising efforts. Please contact the particular school family to make your donation.

*The second collection: for the needs of the Canadian Church.

*Project Advance Campaign 2023: As of Sept 17, 2023, the parish has raised $36,215.00.Thank you for your generosity and ongoing financial support to the parish set goal of $80,000.

*Mid-Autumn Festival:The Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement will hold a Mid-Autumn Festival on Saturday Sept.30 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at St. Joseph’s school gym. There will be lantern making, Carnival games, music, treats and lantern walks (after Mass at 7PM) and more. All the children in our parish are invited.

*The Parish Office will be closed on the following Mondays October 2nd and 9th in observance of Truth and Reconciliation Day and Thanksgiving Day.  Daily Masses will be celebrated as per the regular schedule.

*Altar Server’s Meeting: All current altar servers are invited to attend. Parents with children who have already received their First Holy Communion, are encouraged to bring their children to this workshop to see if their children are interested in becoming altar servers. 

*Food hamper program: The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is helping our parish, together with St. Mark's Lutheran and King's Cross Anglican Churches, to start a monthly food hamper program for families in need in the neighborhood. To register for a hamper, please drop in at St. Mark's Church basement (1593 East 18th Ave, across the street from St. Joseph's) on Sunday September 24 between 2 and 3:30 pm, or Thursday September 28 between 5 and 7 pm. Registered families will be able to pick up their food hamper at St. Mark's Church basement on Thursday October 12 between 5 and 7 pm. Please call the parish office (604-876-7826) if you have questions. 

*At the Leaders Meeting on Monday night September 18, 2023, there was a mutual consent to move the Altar and the Presiding Chair to new location as it is now.
