REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

May your grace, O Lord, we pray, at all times go before us and follow after and make us always determined to carry out good works.”

1. First Wisdom 7.7-11

What do I usually ask of God when I pray? What is the most precious gift I have received? How do God’s gifts of wisdom and understanding differ from our human capabilities? When have I been blessed with new insight into a situation in response to prayer? For what situations and relationships in my life am I most in need of God’s wisdom?

Psalm 128: “Fill us with your love, O Lord, that we may rejoice and be glad.”

2. Second Reading Hebrews 4.12-13

When have I experienced God’s piercing judgement? What, if anything, am I trying to hide from him and from myself? Why? How can I grow in openness to God?

Alleluia! Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!”

3. Gospel Reading Mark 10.17-30

Do I come to Jesus expecting his affirmation of how good my life is, or am I genuinely seeking a more profound relationship as his disciple? “How hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!” What attachments hold me back from wholehearted commitment to Jesus? What is my next step?
