REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

“If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But with you is found forgiveness, O God of Israel.”

1. First Reading - 2 Kings 5.14-17

Naaman was initially too proud to accept Elisha’s cure, but when healed, he was overwhelmingly grateful. When has God healed me, physically, emotionally or spiritually? What experiences have helped humility and gratitude take root and grow in my life?

Psalm 98: “The Lord has revealed his victory in the sight of the nations”

2. Second Reading 2 Timothy 2.8-13

What concerns do I have for the salvation of others? The second reading reminds us that “the word of God is not chained”, however powerless we may feel. How might the trials of my life witness to God’s promise for the salvation of souls?

“Alleluia! Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

3. Gospel Reading – Luke 17.11-19

The lepers all had some faith: they sought Jesus’ healing, then on his instruction they showed themselves to the priests to be pronounced clean. Why did only the Samaritan return to thank Jesus? What thanksgiving prayers will I offer to God and share with others this weekend? How can I live each moment in gratitude?
