“O people of Sion, behold, the Lord will come to save the nations, and will make the glory of his voice heard in the joy of your heart.”

First Reading: Isaiah 40.1-5, 9-11

Isaiah prophesied to the people of God who were suffering exile in Babylon. How might this text from Isaiah apply in our time? What imagery of God’s coming speaks to my heart? How might it encourage others?

Psalm 85: “Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.”

Second Reading: 2 Peter 3.8-14

How have I benefited from God’s patience? What might it be like to live in the “new heavens and new earth”, compared to today’s world? What do I need to work on personally, to be ready for that day?

“Alleluia! Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths: all people shall see the salvation of God.”. Alleluia.”

Gospel: Mark 1.1-8

How does Mark begin the “good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God”? Why was John the Baptist important for people? As heirs to the Good News, baptized with water and with the Holy Spirit: why is the recollection of John the Baptist in Advent still important for us?
