First Reading: Genesis 22.1-2, 9-13, 15-18

When have I felt tested by God? What similarities and differences were there, compared to God’s test of Abraham? What did I learn through the testing, and how has it changed my faith and my interaction with God, especially in times of trial?

Psalm 116: “I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.”

Romans 8.31b-35, 37

“If God is for us, who is against us?” “Who is to condemn?” “Who will separate us from the love of Christ?” What are my greatest fears, and how does my faith prepare me to face them?

“Praise and honour to you, Lord Jesus Christ! From the bright cloud the Father’s voice is heard: This is my Son, the Beloved, listen to him.”

 Gospel: Mark 9:2-10

What experiences in my spiritual journey have had the most striking impact on my faith and relationship to Christ? What confusing aspects of the experiences, or unanswered questions, remained afterwards? The apostles didn’t question their experience of Jesus’ transfiguration, although they wondered what was coming. How would I counsel someone who has had a profound spiritual experience?
