“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near.”

First Reading: Isaiah 61.1-2a, 10-11

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” How am I living the mission of Christ given me in Baptism and strengthened in Confirmation?

Responsorial (Luke 1): “My soul shall exult in my God.”

Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5.16-24

What joys inspire me to give thanks to God? For what difficulties should I give thanks? During this Advent, how has the Spirit been actively guiding me on the path to holiness?

“Alleluia! The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has sent me to bring good news to the poor.” Alleluia.”

Gospel: John 1.6-8, 19-28

John the Baptist was sure of who he was and what God wanted him to do, and he lived it. What do I say about myself? What is my relationship to Christ and what does God want me to do in that role?
