REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

1. First Reading Acts 5.28-32, 40b-41

Despite prohibitions, the Apostles “filled Jerusalem” with their teaching in the name of Jesus, discomfiting those who wished them silenced. How has the Holy Spirit been working in me to witness to Jesus? What message do my words and actions convey? How does it compare to the Apostles’ proclamation? What witness is most needed in our time?

Psalm 30: “I will extol you, Lord, for you have raised me up.”

2. Second Reading - Revelation 5.11-14

How do I imagine heaven will be, or the communion of Saints? What will it take for everyone in heaven and earth to worship the Lord, our Saviour?

“Alleluia! Christ is risen, the Lord of all creation; he has shown pity on all people.

3. Gospel Reading - John 21.1-19

How often do I set out to “go fishing” without Christ? When have I encountered him on those ventures and how did I come to recognize him? What might it have been like for Peter to face Jesus then, still needing reconciliation after his denials during the crucifixion? How has Jesus restored me from regret and shame, to take up his work? What fears and what strengths do I have in looking to the future?
