“Almighty ever-living God, direct our actions according to your good pleasure, that in the name of your beloved Son we may abound in good works.”

First Reading: Isaiah 9.1-4

Isaiah foresees the liberation of outlying territories from Assyrian rule. What experiences in my life does Isaiah’s description call to mind? How has the Lord guided me through times of trial? When have I felt the light and joy of freedom in the Lord?

Psalm 27: “The Lord is my light and my salvation.”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1.10-13, 17-18

St. Paul exhorts Corinthians to put aside divisions to unite in mind and purpose in Christ. What divisions within the Catholic Church and among Christians trouble me? May Christ and “the message of the Cross” draw all Christians closer as we pray for Christian unity.

Alleluia! Jesus proclaimed the good news of the kingdom curing every sickness among the people.”

Gospel: Matthew 4.12-23

When have I seen the light of Christ? How have I heard his call and responded? What are some obstacles to following Christ and becoming “fishers of people”? How is God inviting me to continue his work today?

PARISH INFORMATION

The envelope for 2023 is ready to pick up at the church entrance

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an annual celebration observed by a number of different Christian Churches. Christians around the world are invited to pray for the unity of all Christians, to reflect on scripture together, to participate in jointly-organized ecumenical services, and to share fellowship.

During this week of prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25), Catholics join in prayer with all Christians for continuing progress in healing theological and interpersonal divisions to restore the unity Christ intended for his Church. The theme this year is "Do good; seek justice" (Isaiah 1.17). If you are interested in helping to explore possible collaborative initiatives with nearby churches for assisting people in need in our neighbourhood, please speak with Father Martin.

On behalf of everyone here at St. Joseph’s Parish, we wish everyone a Happy and Blessed Lunar New Year. May you be filled with joy, hope and peace.

Stay in Touch: We welcome emails or phone calls to the parish office (604-876-7826 / parish.[email protected]) if you have suggestions or need assistance. Please keep your contact information (address, phone, email) up to date.
