7th Sunday Easter

Ascension of the Lord

“Men of Galilee, why gaze in wonder at the heavens? This Jesus whom you saw ascending into heaven will return as you saw him go. Alleluia!”

First Reading: Acts 1.1-11

What questions do I have for Jesus? How does Jesus’ message to the disciples speak to my own concerns? How has the Holy Spirit empowered me to give witness to Christ?

Psalm 47: “God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.”

Second Reading: Ephesians 1.17-23

This text begins with a prayer for “a spirit of wisdom and revelation” for those who are early in their faith journey. How does this prayer apply to me and to people in my family and social circles? How do I understand the Church as the Body and the fullness of Christ?

“Alleluia. Go make disciples of all nations; I am with you always, to the end of the age. Alleluia.

Gospel: Matthew 28.16-20

After their time with Jesus, through his teaching ministry, death and resurrection, why might some of the apostles have doubted as they worshipped him? What doubts trouble me? How do I pass on Jesus’ teaching and “make disciples”? How have I experienced Jesus being with me?
