Pentecost Sunday

“The love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Spirit of God dwelling within us.”

First Reading: Acts 2.1-11

After Jesus ascended to heaven, the apostles gathered in the upper room to pray and await the coming of the Holy Spirit. How does our gathering for Sunday Mass compare and contrast with their gathering at Pentecost? How do “outsiders” respond to God’s presence with us at Mass? What abilities has the Spirit given me and how should I be using them?

Psalm 1404: “Lord, send forth your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12.3b-7, 12-13

As one body in Christ, the Church becomes more than the sum of individual gifts, activities and services. How does the unity of the Spirit manifest in my family, at work or school, and in my parish involvement? How can I share more fully in the work of the Spirit?

“Alleluia. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Alleluia.

Gospel: John 20.19-23

When do I confine my faith behind locked doors? How has Jesus presented himself to me? What do I need from the Holy Spirit this Pentecost: Peace? Forgiveness? Other gifts?
