REFLECTION ON THE READINGS

Men of Galilee, why gaze in wonder at the heavens? This Jesus whom you saw ascending into heaven will return as you saw him go. Alleluia!

1. First Reading Acts 2.1-11

At Pentecost, the apostles received a gift of languages. What other gifts of the Holy Spirit (wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, courage, reverence (piety), awe and wonder (fear of the Lord)) did they probably receive for their mission? Which gifts do I need, to tell others about God’s deeds of power?

Psalm 104: “Lord, send forth your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.”

2. Second Reading - 1 Corinthians 12.3b-7,12-13

How is the Holy Spirit at work in me and my close friends or family? When have I especially noticed the different gifts of those who are baptized working together for the Kingdom of God? When was unity of the Spirit not so obvious? How is the Holy Spirit active in those who have not yet received the gift of faith? What must I do to better follow the Holy Spirit’s lead?

“Alleluia! Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

3. Gospel Reading - John 20.19-23

What a blessing to the apostles, the gift of the Holy Spirit! What a blessing to us! How has the Holy Spirit graced my life? What experiences do I cherish of forgiving and being forgiven, of the Spirit’s guidance and advocacy, of obedience to God, and of divine love, peace and joy?
